5. Mr. and Mrs. La Tour Eiffel
Like the protagonist of any great love story, Erika La Tour Eiffel has given up a great deal for the love of her life. She was even been disowned by her mother for moving ahead with what she knows in her heart that she must. You can’t blame her though, after all her man is tall, dark and handsome…well, to be fair, he’s the Eiffel Tower. Erika was a professional archer when she fell in love with her bow, and she credits that relationship with leading her to her rank as a world-class archer. But it was in 2004 while competing with the US National Archery Team that she first encountered the Eiffel Tower and she fell in love with the monument almost immediately, in 2007 the two were wed, shortly afterwards Erika LaBrie legally changed her name to Erika De La Tour Eiffel to reflect the union.
4. Jennifer Hoes
On May 28th, 2003 artist Jennifer Hoes was due to turn 30, but the day would be more than just a celebration of her birth, in fact, it would also be her wedding day, and the groom to be? Well herself of course!
Hoes married herself in a lovely ceremony in the Netherlands which was followed by a feast attended by her mother, uncle, cousins and over 80 other relatives. And what did she wear on the momentous occasion, a lovely beige gown studded with over 200 precision replicas of her own nipples. Rather than a show of narcissism, the spectacle was intended more as a show of commitment to herself, in her vows she pledged to “love, respect and honour” herself, at the end of the day those are commitments we should all be making to ourselves. Hoes would be quick to point out that this doesn’t mean loving herself exclusively, and in the Netherlands where the concept of open relationships is a great deal more embraced than in western civilisations, she is still open to meeting a second romantic partner.
When she isn’t marrying herself, Jennifer Hoes is a multi-medium artist whose work includes porcelain vases cast from her thighs, complex metal structures and of course her own nipple laden wedding gown
3. Maria Griffin
Maria Griffin had begun to consider herself asexual after years of failing to form an attraction to anyone she attempted to date, as time went by she felt increasingly hopeless at the prospect of finding “The One”. That was until the San Bernardino native finally found sexual gratification, but it came, not with a partner, but from a deep and lucid fantasy about Manhattan’s famous Chrysler building. While this infatuation would prove a turning point for her, it would not be her one true love, instead, she would experience feelings for several different motor vehicles over time. But one make and model always captivated her more than the others, Griffin found herself repeatedly drawn to Ford trucks. And then it happened, she finally found the truck she was looking for in an older model custom Ford pickup, she purchased it immediately and the two of them were married by a friend before embarking on their honeymoon. Maria has been very open about the success of their love life and claims that sexually their marriage is “healthy and active”

2. Chadil Deffy and Sarinya Kamsook
Chadil Deffy was a busy university student in Thailand when he found the love of his life in fellow student Sarinya Kamsook, they dated for many years as both of them worked on heavy degrees, finally, Kamsook decided to ditch gender roles and asked Deffy to marry her. Sadly Deffy turned her down citing not a lack of readiness but a heavy workload, he promised that they would wind up married one day. In 2012 the two still hadn’t had a chance to tie the knot but their love for each other burnt brightly as ever, that’s when tragedy struck – Sarinya Kamsook was killed in a catastrophic car accident that would leave Deffy alone and devastated.
Heartbroken and unwilling to waver on his promise Deffy married Kamsook in a ceremony that served dually as her funeral. She was dressed elegantly and he sported an appropriate tux as he slipped a ring on her finger as a pledge of his love, and as a way to make right his regret for denying her proposal when he had the chance. Deffy has been quiet since the ceremony, having very little to do with the media and it can only be presumed that he is grieving in his own time and in his own way.

1. Salvita and Chaman Singh
Salvita of India was fully prepared to marry her one true love, Tibetan border patrol officer, Chaman Singh, however heavy snowfalls and inclement weather meant that Singh could not make it to the ceremony. While a lesser bride may have sent her guests home and rescheduled, Salvita wasn’t about to disappoint the many family members who went to great lengths to show up. Instead, she did what anyone would have done – she married a clay pot. This isn’t the first time a fiancee has gone missing moments before a wedding in India, in fact, they even have a name for this event, Kumbh vivah, is the act of leaning a photo of the missing spouse against a clay pot and conducting a legally binding ceremony with the unflinching stand in.
