We’ve all heard the term play it cool, but what does that really mean? What does ‘cool’ entail? Should we act aloof and like we aren’t into someone? These are genuine thoughts and questions. We know that when you’re too clingy and over bearing it can scare someone off before it has the chance to go anywhere. The difficulty lies in how to strike that balance. That balance will ensure that you won’t see your relationships fizzle out and miss out on potential soul mates.
Keep Busy
Even though those first few months of new love can be all-encompassing, it’s important that you stay busy. If you sit around, putting your all into this one person then they might start back away from you. New love can overwhelm anybody, and the hormones that come along with that are highly intoxicating. Don’t lose your head, and keep your regular routines. It will make those times you are together that much more exciting.
Deal With Anxiety Head On
Insecurities are bound to pop up when you enter a new relationship. But if you acknowledge them and face them, you might have a better chance of overcoming them before they become a bigger problem. Anxieties are born out of fear; get to the bottom of what is causing you to feel this way. A therapist can help to address these issues and suss out the root cause.
Don’t be Anyone But Yourself
Yeah, yeah, you might be thinking that this goes against the advice I’m giving, but hear me out. If you’re pretending to be someone else, just to play it cool, then you are not being honest to yourself or your partner. If you are dating someone that makes you feel like you can’t be who you really are, then it might be best to move on.
Relax
Exercise, eat right, meditate, and go to yoga. Please be kind to yourself, you are after all only a human falling in love. Try to find ways that are relaxing to you. Obsessive thoughts can get the best of us and can be the demise of any relationship.
Lay Off The Texts
Bombarding him or her with texts can drive anyone crazy. You are in control of your phone, so put it down. If they don’t text you back right away, don’t keep sending text after text. It’s not only annoying, but it’s also off-putting, and it’s not worth getting worked up over. There are many reasons why they didn’t message back right away, so be cool.
Keep The Mystery
You don’t need to divulge your deepest darkest secrets all in one go. Reveal yourself little by little. After all, this should be a fun time in a couple. You’re just getting to know each other, and every date will divulge more about him or her. Take your time, and go with the flow. Your lover will feel more at ease as well, and they will follow your lead.
